Denver was the first stop on this trip, and it did not disappoint. The campus sits squarely in the center of beautiful downtown.  The golden dome made it very easy to find. The stone steps leading to the doors greeted us with the chiseled phrase “one mile above sea level.” A marker 3 steps higher also signals the “one mile” achievement.  Apparently, someone re-measured at some point and time and found the original measurement to be false. I guess they don’t make liquid paper for stone steps.

A group of school children gathered in front of the grand staircase to begin a tour. I tried to blend in without appearing too creepy until I got bored and decided to investigate on my own.  It’s only 99 steps to the top of the dome, and I made it without passing out. A great view of the city awaited me at the top of the steps. I made a detour on the way back down and checked out the hall of President’s, and then headed to the car to try and beat the weather.
