I made good time from Lincoln, and made it to Des Moines around 2:30pm. I was really surprised to see how ornate the building is. I had assumed that Iowa would have a much more simple, understated design, but as I drove up the hill, all I could see was the gleam from golden dome. The building sits at the top of a hill looking down on Main Street. The inside has wonderful wood features and unique rotunda. One cool feature is a model of the U.S.S Iowa in one of the entrance ways.
